Stofjes opruimen – organising fabrics

While longing for my perfect, creative paradise heaps of fabric, wool, paper and other stuff are spread out in different cupboards. To keep a sort of overview I’m trying to organize all those things. Although it’s kind of fun to discover new fabrics in your own stash ;-)

I started with my smaller fabric pieces, the fat quarters and half yards. On lots of sites they sell special plastic or cardboard boards to roll your fabric on, just like in the stores. Price and delivery rates in mind, I made my own!

A pack of thin cardstock a4 size, paperclips, tape and your iron are useful.

1. Strijk je stof (geeft een mooier resultaat)/Iron your fabric (gives a prettier finish)

BILD2952

2. Vouw de stof dubbel in de breedte en nog eens dubbel/Fold your fabric in half broadwise and fold again.

BILD2967

3. Vouw je a4 karton twee keer dubbel (een keer in de lengte, een keer in de breedte) en plak de open kanten toe met plakband/Fold your cardstock in half twice ( once lengthwise and once broadwise) and secure the open sides with tape.

4. Leg je karton op de stof/Put the cardstock on the fabric.

BILD2968

5. Rol de stof op het karton/Roll the fabric on the cardboard.

BILD2970

6. Zet vast met paperclips/Secure with paperclips.

BILD2974

7. Zet al je stofjes mooi in een passend doosje/Store the fabrics in a fitting box.

8. Bewonder het resultaat :-)/Admire the result :-)

For bigger pieces of fabric I’m going to use the same system, but with thicker cardboard, fi from old boxes.

Eindelijk… tadaah! - Long overdue: tadaah!

Tadaah… Maar nu is het echt af :-)

Last year in July I mentioned some kind of creative project I was working on… Yes, LAST YEAR… It took ages before I could really say: Tadaah! But now it’s time :-)

It all started with an old suitcase from the thrift store, Mod Podge and vintage fabrics.

Mod Podge suitcase

Bottom suitcase

Top

The old, ugly paper came off from the inside and got replaced with the vintage fabric.

Paper inside suitcase

Fabric inside suitcase

The outside got a coat of white paint, also a fabric cover and a ribbon to finish the edges.

Rolmes

Cut fabric botttom suitcase

Edges

A pillow was made to fit the bottom, also the pink crochet blankie and the bunting got involved. All that resulted in…

cushion

pink blankie

handle

Paws

Een kattenbed voor de koninklijke kat!

A pet bed for the queen of the house!

suitcase

She likes it!

Finished!

En? Is ze geslaagd?

So, what do you think?

Love, Zjizjipke!

Hobbymarket–Hobbysalon

Last week me and my BFF went to Mechelen, there was this big market with all things creative. If you can imagine something, they sold everything to make it! So yes, we did buy stuff, a lot of stuff to be exact :-) But they had really gorgeous fabrics, I could say in my defence!

The 4 on the right are Michael Miller fabrics, love them! The babushka is a design from Design-by-me, it’s a doll/pillow to make.

The pink gingham roll and the other are oilcloth, maybe a toiletry bag to be.

I’m already saving up for the next edition :-)

Washing and drying…

Last weeks have been really busy workwise, so an occasional row of crochet has been the most creative part of my life :-)
In between my shifts I have been preparing part of my next big non-crochet project! Oh, wait, some crochet may sneak into the final result, but mostly it’s about fabrics and stuffing and glue and paint and stuff… Curious yet? ;-)

This week I washed some fabrics from the thrift store and my grandmother to be used in ‘the project’. A beautiful sight on the clothesline!

Now for the ironing part, sigh, it’s the part I least enjoy… Well, no time like the present, I guess?

Enjoy your weekend!

The loot!

Ikea, that’s where I spent most of my day yesterday…
Apart from some storage stuff, which I love btw, I had my eyes on some fabric and orchids.

More orchids? More fabric? Yes, yes, I’m guilty of both charges…

3 different pieces of fabric, I told myself would be enough for now.

So here they are:

The last one isn't really clear, but the cat woulnd't budge... If you look well, you can see it in her eyes, she claims this piece for herself!

Mission: buy three (and only three) pieces of fabric.

Status mission: completed? as if...

Evidence of failed mission:

A bag of fabric??????? Uhm, yes, it is...
Somewhere in Ikea, there is a discount corner, maybe you've already been there?
It's crammed full furniture with flaws and 'end of season' stuff, but sometimes one gets lucky and stumbles over a bag full of goodies!
Goodies in the sense of seven different fabrics, dimensions between a metre and several meters (!) for the grand price of 9,99 euros...
Let's just say, it made my day ;-)

Love, zjizjipke

Gorgeous!

Hello all!

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend! Mine started off with a nice surprise on Friday. When I got home after work, I opened the letterbox and found…

an envelope from Holland!

Could it be? Was it the one I won on Ingthings giveaway? Yes, yes, it was!

In the envelope was a cute postcard, a little crochet flower and a vintage flower card on top of the wrapping paper.

After opening the paper, I found the gorgeous red and black fabric!
But wait, there was more… Vintage ribbons and beautiful buttons completed the treasure!

Oh, how I love buttons!!!

Thanks Ingrid!!! I absolutely love the presents you sent me!!! The postcard is already hanging on my fridge, so I can look at it every day and smile because of its cuteness… ‘You brighten up my day’ Yes, you sure do!!

Love, Zjizjipke!
